Machinery protection systems reach end of life while the machines they protect are still mid-lifetime. The replacement is usually treated as a large project when it can often be staged into a normal shutdown.
What takes the time
Not the rack. The field work — transducers, extension cables, junction boxes and routing — is what fills the schedule. Where the existing routing is sound and the transducer type is unchanged, most of it can be retained.
Staging
Configure and factory-test the new system against the existing set points before it goes anywhere near the site. Prove the protection logic on the bench, not on the machine.
What to check first
Cable condition, junction box integrity and whether the existing set points still reflect the machine’s current condition. A migration is a good moment to correct set points that have been carried forward unexamined for a decade.
